research design and causal reasoning

✔︎ Morning Session I: Qualitative methods (case selection, processtracing,
comparisons, fieldwork, interviews)
▪︎ Coffee
✔︎ Morning Session II: Quantitative methods (regression analysis, logic
of experimental/causal inference)
▪︎ Lunch
✔︎ Afternoon Session: Quantitative methods - Empirical application in R
(coding and paper replications)

- Elli Palaiologou, PhD Candidate in Political Science, University of Oxford (Nuffield
College)
* If you’re a student in political or social science and interested in research, great! No
prior methods training required. The seminar is mainly addressed to Master’s and
early PhD students, but applications from advanced undergraduates will also be
considered. You will be expected to complete a set of required readings in advance,
and to engage actively in seminar discussions (both in Greek and English). A
maximum of 15 students will be admitted to the seminar.
